American Experience: Alexander Hamilton

The story of a founding father who laid the groundwork for the nation’s modern economy — including the banking system and Wall Street. He was also a primary author of the Federalist Papers.

Alexander Hamilton stands out from the other founding fathers in that he was an immigrant and … a bastard, the illegitimate child of an English nobleman. He was born in the West Indies where his father had unsuccessfully sought fortune. Orphan at a young age he attracted attention by publishing op-eds in the local paper which prompted a group of benefactors to send him study to what became the United States.

The life and achievements of this extraordinary man is extensively presented in this excellent documentary on PBS
