What Does Virtual Rumor-Mongering Say About Christians?

Robert Marus & Ken Camp over at the Associated Baptist Press have a thoughtful piece on theology, ideology, and fear mongering. Starting with the case of famed atheist activist Madalyn Murray O’Hair, who was labeled by Life magazine in 1964 as “the most hated woman in America”, they examine rumor-mongering more generally:

So, why are Christians so willing to believe unsubstantiated rumors? And more troubling, why are Christians, who should hold the highest standards of truth-telling, so eager to spread such rumors — and even downright libels?
