It didn’t take long for the anti-Muslim paranoia to turn into senseless violence after the Ft. Hood shooting. Not only was the victim totally innocent but he is … an Orthodox priest!
TAMPA — Marine reservist Jasen Bruce was getting clothes out of the trunk of his car Monday evening when a bearded man in a robe approached him.
That man, a Greek Orthodox priest named Father Alexios Marakis, speaks little English and was lost, police said. He wanted directions.
What the priest got instead, police say, was a tire iron to the head. Then he was chased for three blocks and pinned to the ground — as the Marine kept a 911 operator on the phone, saying he had captured a terrorist
I can already hear the fear mongers such as wacko Director of Issues Analysis, Bryan Fischer, at the American Family Association, who a few days ago was throwing gasoline in the fire:
“Of course, most U.S. Muslims don’t shoot up their fellow soldiers. Fine. As soon as Muslims give us a foolproof way to identify their jihadis from their moderates, we’ll go back to allowing them to serve. You tell us who the ones are that we have to worry about, prove you’re right, and Muslims can once again serve. Until that day comes, we simply cannot afford the risk. You invent a jihadi-detector that works every time it’s used, and we’ll welcome you back with open arms. This is not Islamophobia, it is Islamo-realism,”
They will be quick to claim “it’s not my fault, I never called for violence”.
As usual they will argue (correctly) that the act of this marine is an isolate incident that doesn’t reflect the sentiment of all Christians, while simultaneously arguing (incorrectly) that all Muslims are to be suspected after the Ft Hood shooting.
